Bose QuietComfort 3
$349.00
Released June, 2006
The Pros:BOSE's smallest noise-canceling set. Extremely soft and cushy pads - very comfortable. Easy to find a comfortable fit - no need to fidget and fool around with them.
The Cons:BOSE is mostly marketing - doesn't stand up on technical merit alone. Supra-aural pads (on-ear) aren't as comfortable as circum-aural ones (around-ear). Active noise cancellation requires battery power, introduces noise into your music.
Bose engineers hit the drawing board to come up with their latest model of their popular QuietComfort line of noise-cancelling headphones. The greatest challenge was to move from a "circum-aural" to a "supra-aural" design while maintaining sound quality.

This just means that these headphones are smaller than last generation and fit on top of the ear instead of surrounding it. The noise cancelling feature requires a batter power and the QC3s include a battery charger which gives you 20 hours of battery life. They've also improved on the portability of these headphones by making them collapsible and including a carrying case.

Erik:
#bose_quietcomfort_3 Interesting points, Todd. I guess it comes down to the preference of over or on the ear. Personally, I like over so that I'm "surrounded by the music". I think Bose is expecting their market base to be more responsive to the compact size. I like my headphones BIG!

#bose_quietcomfort_3 I have the QC2s which I really like. I didn't get the QC3 because the seemed to fit loose on my head. I were glasses when I work and with the QC2 the frame can create a gap between the ear cup and your head allowing outside noise in. I think the QC3 would work better with glasses since they don't cover your entire ear.
